Tag: Dispensationalism

Dispensationalism is a system of theology that sees history as a progression of distinct administrations (or “dispensations”) under which God manages the affairs of the world. Based on the Greek word oikonomia (meaning “house management”), this framework recognizes that while the way of salvation—by grace through faith—never changes, the specific rules of life and the stewardships given to man do change over time. For example, a believer in the Church Age is not under the dietary restrictions of the Mosaic Law, nor are we commanded to build an ark like Noah. Key to this theology is a consistent literal-grammatical-historical interpretation of Scripture, which inevitably leads to a clear distinction between God’s program for the nation of Israel and His program for the Church.

Far from being a modern invention, dispensational thought is rooted in the biblical necessity of “rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). It provides the only consistent answer to the apparent contradictions between Law and Grace, and it safeguards the future promises made to Israel. This library explores the foundational principles of this system, contrasts it with Covenant and Replacement Theology, and examines the specific covenants—Abrahamic, Davidic, Land, and New—that structure God’s sovereign plan for the ages.

The Law of Moses: Structure, Requirements, and Fulfillment

The Law of Moses provided Israel with a comprehensive guide to holiness, worship, and societal order, yet it pointed beyond itself to the ultimate fulfillment in Jesus Christ. Through His perfect life and sacrifice, Christ completed the requirements of the Law, ushering in the Dispensation of Grace and inviting believers to live by faith in His finished work.
